december before last, and then again last august, I wrote about a dear friend of mine with colon cancer.

He passed away last night.

This is not a surprise (particularly after I got email on Saturday warning me it was imminent), but that doesn't keep me from being upset anyway.

I'm puzzling over something meaningful to do in his memory rather than just sending flowers to the memorial service I won't be able to attend. Maybe a donation to the American Cancer Society.

If he left family/loved ones behind, you could see if there is a meal-delivery company in the area (most places have them now...call the Chamber of Commerce perhaps? Or a local hospice group?) and purchase them several nights of meals.

*hugs*

I'm so sorry.

He may have left an "in lieu of flowers" request--his family will know. If he didn't, perhaps something like:

--either have a tree/plant/bush/flower (did he have a favorite?) sent to his family for them to plant, or plant one for him yourself in your own yard.
--set up a small scholarship in his name to help someone learn or do something that was important to him.
--put together a scrapbook of your memories of him, and either send it to his family or set it aside so you can tell your child about him in a few years.
--once you're feeling up to it, set aside some time to volunteer for a cause he believed in, or learn something he enjoyed.

I am sorry for your loss Sev.

Is there someone who was very close to him that could use a memorial gift? I like the scholarship idea but it might be thoughtful to bestow such a gift upon someone that he might have taken care of before he left.

I'm sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing.

Have you checked into any local (to you or him) hospice? They never have enough money, and the hospice my mother was in helped me deal with her death process.
