I've begun hoarding yarn scraps. I just can't bring myself to throw them away. Small balls of yarn, in case something I'm knitting needs a bit of color. Four-foot-long strands left over from projects. I even get a twinge when I throw away a six-inch scrap I cut off a finished project.

Maybe I need to get one of those books of different kinds of stitches, or the stitch-a-day calendar, or something, so I can knit up these scraps into little sample-squares. Then I can stow them in a bag with my gauge swatches, which I keep threatening to stitch together into a blanket-or-something. That might save the hat I'm knitting for Z from any potential experimentation.

It's not like I don't have enough projects, though. I have plenty of projects, and I have plenty of yarn. Plenty! I just have this ... yarn-hoarding affliction. How embarassing.

It's not just you. I never throw away little bits of wool either.

Last week I hauled out all the little piddly bits of yarn I had stashed, and crocheted a baby blanket for Project Linus with them. I just crocheted with each colour till I'd finished it, then tied on the next one - there wasn't much of any of them - so the finished item looks like a crocheted rag rug, only with better colour co-ordination. I'm quite pleased with it.
