I am very glad this current roleplaying game, where we're playing characters based on ourselves, is coming to a close. It's been fun (more fun when the GM gets tipsy & takes off her shirt) but really, one of the nice things about roleplaying is getting *away* from the limits I experience in normal day-to-day life.

Periodically, I'll do something brave, rash, and/or spontaneous, and somebody in my gaming group will note that I'm channeling my favorite D&D character, who was outgoing and risk-taking in ways that I'm normally not. Having a bit of Verrin stick, even after we've stopped playing that game, was a good thing.

Maybe next time I'll create a character that's big and dumb. I think that would be fun.

I've never played a character that was big and dumb, but I did once play a really stupid cleric (had the absolute minimum intelligence and wisdom for the class). She used to do things like walk up to monsters and begin cheerfully proselytizing.

This would often sufficiently confused the (more intelligent) monsters that the rest of the party could do something useful, like kill them.

Hee. Sometimes there's nothing quite so satisfying as playing the big dude with the giant weapon wot gets pointed by other members of the party at obstacles that are supposed to go away. I don't often do it, but it is indeed fun occasionally. Plus you tend to get to roll more dice than anyone else...

Oh, yeah. I know what you mean about playing to "get away". When my group accused me of creating characters that were "typically girly" I played a big dumb mercenary for a long time, and it was a totally different sort of challenge.
