My father supplied an answer to the first question: In what way would a man use a silk scarf? Knot it around his kneck as an ascot when wearing a dressy coat.

The second question I'm making less traction on: What does someone -- of any gender -- do with a scarf that's too short to knot around the kneck? This scarf is lovely but it's only six inches wide and 24 inches long. I fear it's going to end up a doily...

bowl of pale blue wash, with macropearl added, and a few squirts apiece of purple & turquoise lumiere.

bowl of pale tangerine wash, with interference red added, and a few squirts of pink lumiere.

bowl of green wash, with a squirt of an olive green/olive lumiere/aztec gold mixture stirred in.

bowl of purple wash.

two little palette-circles full of full-strength sun yellow, and two of full-strength magenta.

soaked the silk in blue & orange, and followed up with the rest of the colors (ending with the full-strength) and then went back and blended edges with more blue & orange & purple.

day-um, that yellow and magenta done perked the rest of the colors *right* up.
