blizzard's "Real ID" & sock-puppets

Blizzard is nuts. The gaming-specific landscape that Blizzard provides hardly provides deep incentive to use a real name, so a "Battle.net-wide" (sneer quotes intentional) network that wants your real name seems meaningless.

By contrast, facebook (for instance) spans so many scenarios that people are deeply incented to use their real names, so your real-world social network triangulates your you-ness). In the Blizzard scenario, the trolls and stalkers will use sock-puppet accounts, while their victims will be "following the rules" by not doing so.

if Blizzard wants to go this direction, they should use fb connect or similar. At least then the stalkers would be less likely to just be sock-puppets.

Arrrgh.
