I posted a picture of the sad lace swatch from my previous entry on flickr, but I'm not bothering to reproduce it here. There are several things wrong with it, none of which are related to the decrease-one-increase-two thing I was asking about.

- the distribution of increases leads to a spiral pattern. I knew this, generally, but I didn't think through what that would mean if I was knitting a half- instead of a full- hex. The long edge, in that case, is not straight. A different distribution of increases could make me a regular hexagon (not swirly) or a circle, either of which would work better.

- the double-eyelets -- one from the rs row, surrounded by a raised ridge, and adjoining it from the ws row, one stitch offset -- started out seeming really neat but got boring fast.

- the decrease-one-increase-two shaping made some neat patterns but as it turned out they were too subtle.

- the border (whose chart I did not post) was weird. Really weird.

I'll try again later. I've got a new design based on what I learned & it's very pretty.

Looks like a spooky Halloween decoration to me. How timely! :)
