Hey! Welcome to livejournal. I understand your ambivalence, but from where I sit, it will be good to have you around. I added you to my friends list, which means that you'll be exposed to a lot more of the things I write than what I make public. If it gets to be too much for you, let me know, and I can take you back off, no hard feelings.
Which brings me to the point of this comment: One of the things I really like about livejournal, as opposed to other online forums, is the fact that you can control how much other people see, and control who sees what, post by post, individual by individual. I make entries that I share with only one other person, or three, or four, or seven, or twelve, or my whole friends list. And when I write something I feel like making public, I throw it out there for all to see. I love that versatility; it's the first time I haven't felt unduly exposed online, myself.

P.S. The context was different, but I also recently recounted my online history (http://www.livejournal.com/users/therealjae/367415.html), if you're at all curious. :-)
