I'm still alive!

I'm still alive! We went to Georgia and Louisiana for Thanksgiving.
Ethan was out of town at the end of Hanukkah; the week without him was challenging but we survived.
I dyed my very first yarn -- 100% silk noil. It was fun and pretty and turned out nothing like I'd planned -- the red ended up barely there at all and the blue was overwhelming. The rest of that hank is soaking now and I'm going to try some other ratio of colors. And, after that, a 50/50 merino silk is waiting for me. As it turns out, I'm fascinated by long, slow variegations. The 100% silk has a ten-foot pattern repeat; I'm hoping that I can skein the 50/50 to have an even longer one...
I've been playing a thousand blank white cards and it's as fun as I'd hoped.
I'm still designing that lace medallion. Instead of charting first & then knitting it up to see what happens, I'm freestyling the knitting and then, when I get something I like, writing it down. The part I'm liking best is late-ish in the pattern; it's [yo, k6, yo, kn[0...6], k2tog, k3, yo, k2tog]x6 on odd rows, and just k on even rows (that kn section is 1 stitch bigger each row. I haven't figured out how long I'm going to continue that for, nor what I'm doing next...I was thinking perhaps when it got to k6 I'd start growing that section of k3 instead, but I'm not sure.)
