Swatching that pink yarn
Nov. 9th, 2006 11:11 amThanks to suggestions from
kightp and
snippy I've got at least a somewhat better idea of what I might do with that pink-and-black slubby yarn I was puzzling over last week.
First, there was the simple dropstitch pattern on size 2's:

which showed some promise.
But then, when I was shopping downtown with
aynjel and there was pink-and-orange novelty ribbon-ladder yarn on 50% clearance:

So I bought four balls of that.
That made for some very, very pretty dropstitch...

though knitting it on the bias was a dumb move on my part:

And then it occurred to me, I've got six hundred and something yards of this ribbon, and while I could just make a really *big* scarf, I could also use those yarns to unify a bunch of odds and ends -- the orange furry yarn, obtained on 30% clearance, the 65-or-so yards of hot pink lamb's pride leftover from the bag, an unknown quantity of black dk whenever I get those socks done (if I ever get those socks done...), and so on. At the very least, it wants to be mixed with the furry orange stuff. Or saved for a project where I *need* six hundred yards of novelty-something.
Maybe like I'm doing with that "ruana" from the yarn-stash workbook. (Dangerous book. Nice to be able to use random bits of yarn I end up collecting, but it kind of encourages me to collect random bits of yarn.) Maybe some svelte little sleeveless shell with furry trim...
