one-track mind

sev: I did the gum last time I quit.
sev: It helped wean me off the nicotine.
My Friend's Brother: i prefer the patch
MFB: but the gum is at least something to actively do when you crave a cigarette
sev: I sharpened pencils this evening.
MFB: sheesh
MFB: i was never *that* hooked
MFB: i mostly liked the drug
sev: I felt the need to destroy things. Sharpening pencils felt catabolic enough.
MFB: some people react differently to cigarettes, i think

sev: people keep asking me why I'm quitting.
sev: I look at them and say, "because if I don't, it's going to kill me."
MFB: smokers or nonsmokers?
sev: nonsmokers.
sev: They don't seem to like that answer.
MFB: why else would you be quitting?
sev: heh. I think they want to hear "because I'm planning on getting pregnant at any minute!"

Heh! Amongst my ex's bad-parent accusations about me was that I'd "sharpened pencils to a lethal point." It's become a running joke: "Are you back at the pencils?"

xanax. i find that xanax really helped. that and a hippie concoction that contained lobelia placed under my tongue at bad or grumpy times. hippie concoction was for bad cravings; xanax was for grumpiness.
