my god.
Two years ago, a woman separated from her husband, who was convicted and jailed for beating her. She filed for divorce last April. Now
she's been told by a judge that she can't get divorce her abuser because she's pregnant

Yeah, I read that story ... ain't that something?
Even covenant marriages (fundie institutions though they are) allow for divorce due to abuse. This woman's abuse was well-documented and she followed the letter of the law, but the judge fears the kid being a "bastard"? Hello, DNA test anyone?
That story made me ill.

It's not even his kid.
The concern is that a kid without a parent will become a ward of the state.

So far we still have no-fault, one-party-may-end-it divorce in Oz. :::fingers crossed:::
This kind of thing used to happen here up until the sixties: I remember it.
