questions I've been puzzling over

My father supplied an answer to the first question: In what way would a man use a silk scarf? Knot it around his kneck as an ascot when wearing a dressy coat.

The second question I'm making less traction on: What does someone -- of any gender -- do with a scarf that's too short to knot around the kneck? This scarf is lovely but it's only six inches wide and 24 inches long. I fear it's going to end up a doily...

Wear it as a bracelet?

Tie a longer scarf around one's neck neck and face, then thread the shorter one through the front of the tied scarn in a non-unascotlike fashion to cover the skin of the neck in front of a slightly unzipped winter coat.

Pocket handkerchief?

How come you're not sleeping in? :-)

Cheeky!

I'm not one for sleeping in. Should have mentioned in my last comment that I meant decorative pocket handkerchief, not one you actually use.

Tie it in a loose bow as a floppy choker. They're quite chic!

You have long hair, so you can wear it like I often do. Comb your hair back, pass the scarf under the hair behind your neck, lift it up as you cross it over to tie it, then tie a second very tight knot. It holds the hair back in a ponytail that is loose and soft and romantic.

short scarves

Bring the ends forward and tuck them into a high-necked shirt or your jacket, almost like a napkin, but in reverse. Or do the same with a brooch / clasp to hold them in place with a low-necked shirt.
