monday, monday
y'know, some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
one thing went unambiguously right yesterday, and really, I could have done that *from* bed. Actually, I did do most of it from bed.
...and after that, along with a host of more-minor annoyances, I gave up on any idea of actually socializing with all the very nice people who were arriving at my house and I went upstairs and sat in bed.
I did, however, help my sister get her new laptop back onto her new wireless network. It had been working that afternoon, but then she got on the phone with me so I could walk her through configuring a WEP key and before we had touched *anything*, the very first thing she discovered was that her laptop wasn't talking to the wireless base station anymore. After an hour or so of twiddling everything I could think of to no avail, we rolled her system back to where it had been that morning, and discovered that fixed it...and then we re-did everything she'd done that day (security updates, office updates, activating new software, etc.) and the wireless connection didn't go away again. So we don't know what changed, but she's got all the updates she expected to have, and the network is functioning, so...we decied to call that success.
So, for all of you fine people who were at my house yesterday and got to listen to me shout (or who arrived later, and didn't see me at all) I'm fine, nothing's really wrong, I still like you even if I didn't even manage to say hi when I stalked past you, I'm sorry I was unfit for company because I really *would* have liked to stay downstairs and give you a hug and watch a movie with you, but really, it was best for all of us that I just absented myself for the evening.
I'd gotten plenty of sleep and food, and PMS is still a week away. So, other than possibly chalking it up to the random perversity of the universe, the only real explanation I can come up with for my Monday to end all Mondays was that I did have a bit of wine Sunday night. I know that drinking more than a half-glass of wine in an evening will result in a very cranky sevoo the next day, and I was prepared for cranky -- just not for sheer incompetence. More data, I suppose, that I shouldn't be drinking at all, even when there's yummy port and muscat, and even when I pour myself tiny little glasses.
hmph.

- No answer yet as to why my new desktop machine bluescreens under heavy audio/video use, though I think I may have begun to rule out heat problems. (it still might be: audio and video resources conflicting, audio and optical drive resources conflicting, plain old idiocy in the audio drivers, plain old idiocy in the video drivers, and a number of less-likely but still-possible things.)
- No progress on my SEAF pieces. It is a good thing I didn't try, because...
- it was a butterfingers day. Things just tumbled out of my hands...
- One broken teapot lid. The teapot was my grandmother's, and the lid shattered into a zillion little shards.
- One broken spoon-rest. The purple one. Broken into three pieces -- two large, one tiny, and the tiny piece vanished, so even if I do glue it back together there'll be a piece missing.
- One broken plate.
