a year in review
Looking at winter and spring of 2004 it's clear I started the year as I intended to live it...quite successfully. It was a good year.
body: yay for the return of my sex drive. I started 2004 with kissing-bruises on my lips. About Fucking Time (no pun intended). Other January 2004 activities of note: Renewed my WetSpot membership, and went to some workshops (as well as one party). Identified more closely how my hormone cycle correlates with my mood and especially my energy levels, which means I've been more forgiving of myself when I've required downtime. Had my first play-piercing, which I determined was Not My Thing, but I'm glad I tried it. Started lifting freeweights, which I did consistently for the first half of the year -- that's something I'll get back to eventually, now that I've got more time, as I realy like what that's done for my shoulders.
art: I started the year with a project that pushed my boundaries as a
photographer. While I didn't do as much photography in 2004 as I'd done in years past, I in general continued the trend of trying new art -- not just in photography, but taking that drawing class and starting silk painting, too. I had a show in New Haven in January, a Valentine's Day project in February, a piece in the Tiptree auction in May, and I finished the erotica section of my portfolio in June. I've been exploring portraiture more all year long, and I feel like I've finally developed useful skills in that direction.
house: last January I weatherstripped the front door. Since then I've finally started to become comfortable Doing Things around the house.
technology: Started 2004 with a big round of upgrades. Mostly just rested on those laurels for the rest of the year. Oops. The holiday season is the best time for upgrades, since most of my users are out of town, but there was so much else going on this December that I decided not to compound the chaos. Perhaps 2005 will be the year I finally get more responsible about that...though I'm not holding my breath; I've been doing this by the seat of my pants for ten years, now.
people: I've been talking to strangers, more. And I started this Livejournal account in March. I've enjoyed adding people to my life for all sorts of reasons.
love: A great deal of 2004 was about the commitment ceremony. We decided early on in the year that we Finally Were Going To Do It, and that consumed a bunch of my year. I'm very glad it went off without problems. Z & I started scheduling his work-late nights so I know each week he's not around on Tuesday nights, which has removed a lot of stress around his work-habits.
Wow, that's a lot of stuff just from the first four or five months of the year. Perhaps I'll get around to reviewing the rest of the year...though I'm not sure I'll have to!
